The Nolo dictionary app, owned by Internet Brands, needed an urgent and immediate redesign completed in one week.

Role Mobile UI designer, Logo and Visual Designer of all app store assets
Tools Sketch, Zeplin, Illustrator, Photoshop
Goal Improve and update the app’s UI in order to maintain existing users, as well as to gain new users with the new design.
Problem The mobile app had not been updated in nearly a decade. In order to avoid being removed from the app store on the release of iOS 11, a complete redesign had to be completed in one week.
Results User engagement increased 176% YoY since 2.0.1 was released, doubling monthly sessions.
Process Overview
After a single meeting with the Project Manager and developers, I began redesigning all of the screens we would be carrying over into the new version.
In addition to the screen design update, based on iOS style standards, I designed the new app icon, screenshots, and revised the copy for the screenshots in the app store listing. As the timeline for the entire redesign was only one week, no user research or testing was included.
Legacy designs
The existing, legacy designs were only visually out-dated, but the app hadn’t been optimized for larger screens since first being shipped. Also, there were several unnecessary features and links still included in the app that were no longer relevant.
Summary
I completed the screen redesigns within the week allotted. It was then successfully developed and released in time to continue being available in the app store. Additionally, I designed all assets including the Nolo Dictionary logo, icon, and app store visuals.
